How the settlement algorithm works
The tool uses a debt minimization algorithm to reduce the number of transactions needed to settle up. Rather than everyone paying everyone else, it finds the minimum set of payments that clears all debts.
For example, if A owes B ₹500, and B owes C ₹500, instead of two transactions, the algorithm simplifies to one: A pays C directly. This means fewer UPI transfers and less confusion.
Multi-currency expenses are converted to your selected base currency before calculation, so a trip that spans INR hotel costs and USD airline tickets can all be split fairly in one place.
